don't know what possessed Lincoln to mount the trunk light where they did on the MKZ Hybrid.
I guess it would be OK if you never planned to put anything on the "battery' shelf thus blocking the light.

I found a great solution by adding a second light at the right rear corner and wiring it into the original one to pick up the power fed by the lid switch.

A couple of spliced wires and screwed it to the lining, it works great.

Here is a picture of the install (with and without the light on)

and you can use the button on it to kill the light if it is too bright (the picture did distort the light when on)

I agree,that placement of the trunk light makes no useful sense,it should have been placed in the trunk just below and center of the rear window.
