Remember the way that Lincolns used to be?

This old Lincoln commercial shows how Lincolns used to be thought of. Better than Oldsmobiles, and Cadillacs in the 80s. Lincolns were the car that set you apart from the pack.

How long do you think it will take to get Lincoln back to its glory days?

10 yrs at least. That's about how long it took Cadillac to get back on in the game. By the way, I would rather have a CTS Vsport over a Merc. E550, BMW 550 or Audi A6/S6, but that's just me. Can only image what the CTS V is going to be like. Unfortunately, it's will be out of my price point for the time being.
Here is a Lincoln commercial advertising the MKZ from modern times. A little cute, but not quite the same timelessness as this gem from the 80s.

I always have been impressed by the fact that the gas model is the same price as the hybrid though.
Lincoln did well back in those days. These days they fail to keep up with the times, they need to do a lot more to keep up with the industry and be what they could have. But when they decide to turn the brand around, it will take some serious funding from Ford.
where do you think they went wrong for them to be in the hole where they are now?
They didn't invest the time and money (R&D) into the continued development of the LS. At the time it was the ONLY domestic luxury sports sedan on the market. To me, it was what the Infinity G37S (Q50) is today, an affordable alternative to the German makes. Loved the car, it could have been the foundation of the brand today.

Just my thought.
Lincoln just kept producing the same cars, i think they just got comfortable with fleet sales, just look how many new Lincolns are limos and 'taxis', it's crazy. But now it's biting them in the arse.
Lincoln is THE luxury taxi cab and limo. That must be where a lot of Lincoln's revenue comes from even today.

I don't think that it is a marketing fault that is the issue though. It is the vehicles themselves. It's hard to plot a course back to success when your brand starts to get a bad reputation. I'd love to hear someone who is an expert on rescuing companies like that.
Fleet sales are necessary for their longevity, I guess some people can say Lincoln is lucky to have that. Even the new MKZ, MKS, MKX, even the Navigator are all used as fleet vehicles today! Crazy how it didn't stop at the Town Car.
I didn't realize that the newest models are being used as fleet vehicles as well. Are they taxis? I think I saw an MKX being used as a taxi the other day.

2014 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid Introducing - YouTube

Too bad the hybrid doesnt get the mileage that people expect it to.

Is that because of people's driving habits or is the unexpected mileage a fact and something Lincoln needs to give us an explanation for?
So what do you guys want to see change in the MKZ? Is it the look or...?
