On Lincoln and the MKC

First things first, I want to say those of you who knock Lincoln for platform sharing with Ford need to get over it. What do you think Audi is without VW platforms underneath?

And heres this from Bloomberg:

Results from clinics with prospective customers indicate the moves Lincoln is making are beginning to pay off, VanDyke said. The company often surveys these potential buyers with brand logos concealed, and Lincoln typically does well until its badge is revealed, he said.
Right so now thats off my chest, onto the goods. The MKC will be debuting in 2014 and surprise surprise, its based on the Ford Escape ;) but it would be your mistake to insinuate the MKC is in fact a Ford Escape.

To start off the MKC has a wider track than the Escape which required an all new front suspension geometry to avoid the nastyness of bump steer. The rooflife of the MKC is lower than the Escape across all pillars. Seating is lower so naturally CG is lower.

MKC also gets its own spec set of rotors and calipers to further shape the MKC's dynamics to feel like something German.

But the star of the show will be the Lincoln exclusive 2.3L EcoBoost engine that is expected in the Ford Mustang next year. the 2.3 is expected to kick out 275 horses and 300 lb-fts of torque, oh look, exactly the same as the BMW X3.

Oh and lets not forget, the MKC is handsome. Virtually unchanged from its concept form here is the production MKC...

The MKC will go on sale early next summer at $33,995

Go ahead and hate it ;)

I absolutely love how this car looks. One of the most attractive SUVs I've seen in a while.

I think I'm going to seriously consider getting this over the MKZ as the family isn't getting any smaller.
The lincoln MKC design is better in some ways than the MKZ. To start, the front end design looks far better. They should have fitted those more squared headlights on the MKZ, instead of what it currently has.
Honestly at 33k. I think this will be a big seller for Lincoln.

so do i, those LEDs are spot on and gorgeous, I'd like to see the other wheel options and it in different colors... Not to mention what the Black label versisons look like

It will be but at $33k you also have to ask what it comes with and what that is like when compared to the competiton
well whats the base equipment in an MKZ, that is a good place to start speculating...
I'm impressed by the MKC. Lincoln did a good job at making an SUV that will advance its brand rather than confirm its current shoddy reputation. I think that the Lincoln grille looks much better on the MKC than it has on any of its other new models. The back of the vehicle looks great too. I think Lincoln might have a winner on its hands here.

And Cadillac doesn't even have an SUV in the segment yet, so Lincoln is a bit ahead of the game on that account too.

the MKC will be one of the vehicles that will give lincoln the push it needs to be a better company. the MKZ has done it a bit but so far doesn't seem to have gotten the results they were looking for.
If Lincoln keeps up like this I think that they could surpass Acura in terms of reputation. Acura doesn't really have a nice sedan, but now Lincoln has a nice SUV and a nice sedan. That seems like a good base to build upon.

Does anyone know what is next on the docket for Lincoln?

Acura is only good for people that want a reliable and affordable luxury sedan/SUV, thats all. Lincoln is starting to be better with the improvements in design and features, they still have a way to go, so far on track to beating acura.
Lincoln is also for people who want affordable luxury :)

Except its not all that reliable. It still has some ways to go. They are far down on the food chain.

and thats where acura swoops in to steal their customers, i'd love to see what the conversion is like of people transitioning from a Lincoln to Acura.
likely for reliability reasons.
Likely.
Eventually people will get fed up, ask for a buy back if possible and move on. Or get out of it some how.
it depends. I've met many owners who were happy. If you just happen to get a car thats bad it'll taint your reputation of Lincoln. And Acura is easily within reach for many.

I have also met a lot of happy owners, but it's understandable that a forum like this would attract more people with complains, so we see it more here. Probably gives people the ideal most MKZ's are like this.

MKS redesign
BTW who said anyone was transitioning from Acura to Lincoln or vice versa? Both of them are wallowing in the same position, its likely a lateral move...

I will say Lincolns have more sex to them than Acura. Id rather drive an MKZ than a TL or TSX...
They compete in similar price markets. Just under the germans that is.

So I could see some people cross shopping them.
