It's not often that you get a top 10 list that ranks car based on not one, but two different factors. AutoGuide put together a top 10 list of vehicles that are the safest and most fuel efficient cars available today.

In order for vehicles to make the list they had to have a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and achieve a minimum score of 38 combined MPG according to EPA tests. Plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles are excluded from the list.

You'll be happy to know that the 2014 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid made it onto the list at number 5. It gets 45 MPG across the board (city, highway, combined). It also has a 5 star rating from the NHTSA. Its also one of the most expensive cars on the list at $36,085. Now just being expensive doesn't mean its more luxurious, but I think its pretty safe to say that the MKZ is also one of the most luxurious cars on the list. Take a look at the full list below.

I guess it makes sense that all of the cars on this list are hybrids. With all the recalls going on right now, finding a safe car seems like a challenge. So its nice to see the one I'm thinking about buy (MKZ Hybrid) is one of the safest around too. I just read an article about how Ford makes really safe vehicles. Looks Honda and Toyota do too. Not a single GM vehicle on the list.
