Here is the reasoning for their choice

First of all, when challenging the ATS, the 2013 Lincoln MKZ faces an uphill battle. The 2013 Cadillac ATS was awarded North American and Motor Trend Car of the Year, as well as best luxury car from popular Mechanics and Car of the Year from Esquire Magazine. It was also US News & World Report’s #1 Upscale Midsize Car; the 2013 Lincoln MKZ was #20 on the same list. The ATS is already well-established as the luxury champion.
Handling: The Cadillac ATS is known for its nimble handling, while the 2013 Lincoln MKZ has suffered from clunky, dull handling that leaves owners wanting more from their driving experience. US News & World Report gave the ATS’s performance an 8.2 score (out of 10), while the 2013 Lincoln MKZ received a paltry 6.2.
Interior: The Interior of the 2013 MKZ has decent headroom upfront, but passengers in the back, especially taller individuals, will be subject to a smaller, cramped interior. Also, the 2013 Lincoln MKZ added touch-controls to replace typical button control features. In an attempt to de-clutter the controls, the MKZ is often frustrating and over-complicated.
Safety: Cadillac ATS has some of the best safety ratings around. For example. US News & World Report gave the 2013 ATS a 9.9 in Safety. The 2013 Lincoln MKZ, however, received an 8.7. Again, the 2013 Lincoln MKZ performs well, but it can’t match the near-perfection of the ATS.
Don’t take our word for it. If you are considering a 2013 Lincoln MKZ, first take a test drive in a Cadillac ATS.
