2018 MKZ 3.0T Timing Issues

1094 Views 16 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  MIDNIGHTMKZ
I have a 2018 MKZ with the 3.0T AWD. I have a 91 tune and tuner says the car is underperforming. Have data logged and gone back and forth and still am with tuner. I am wondering if anyone else has had an issue with these vehicles. I bought the car off carvana and when changing the plugs I noticed they were already at .028 which is common for tunes makes me believe this car was tuned at one point. I had a 2013 SHO and the tune I got for that car was a night and day difference but it did not have these issues. Any help or feedback would be appreciated.

Should also say tuner says car is having severe retardation for some reason.
I would suspect knock sensor. Fought a similar issue a few years ago and the knock sensor had corrosion on connector.
Where is this located at? Did you end up just having to clean it or did you have to replace it

Can you take a picture by chance even if it is a general area? Side close to front bumper or side close to the cab?

What did you use to clean it?
Don’t have that vehicle anymore, google will be your friend. I just used electrical contact cleaner.
Darn. I greatly appreciate the help. I will get with my tuner as well and see if they may know.

is the sensor on the side of the block that is towards the front of the car or towards the back of the car? that way I know where to look roughly. I am sure its gonna be the side facing the back of the car lol.

or is this going to be an instance where the intake manifold needs to come off? Sadly I cannot find any pictures that show where it would be located at.
Here is a photo of my engine bay. Can you point circle or give me some kind of area where it would be at? Tuner said this could very well fix my timing issues I am having. Thank you
