I just received my 2014 MKZ on 8/29/13. I only have 35 miles on it. I was surprised to fine the door trim on the right side DOES NOT line with the dash trim. The power trunk lid CLANGES when it closes. Sounds like a tin can!!! Other wise am happy so far.

The trim not lining up is a very annoying flaw. Do you have any pictures of it for us to see? Power trunk also sounds annoying.

For someone who is happy, you have very red writing with a distinctively unhappy face at the end of your post :)
Why not just bring it back to the dealership and have them fix so you like it 100% ;)
Can you take a picture of that dash trim? Im curious to see what it's like, if it's done in a way that look as if it's meant to be their or if something came apart.
Either way if you're disappointed, contact your dealer.
Sure it is annoying to have to take it back to the dealership after you have had it for such a short time, but if you take it back I can almost guarantee that they will fix it. Complaining doesn't fix the problem, but taking your car down to the dealership will most likely.

BTW I found out the Mercedes CLA is having the same problems. It's not just lincoln.

This is definitely something to have the dealer look at

Are you sure its not the license plate hit the trunk? You should try and pull the plate a bit to see if there is any play. That could be your culprit.
I'd bring it back to the dealer.

The MKZ has had previous complaints or poor quality control.

You bought the car so if you have those QC problems I'd get them fixed through the dealer.
Yeah seriously just bring it back to the dealership, I wouldn't even bother diagnosing the issue myself.
like what the others have said, dealership is where your car needs to be, it's covered under warranty so why not?

x2 I want to see a picture of it as well.
I know the Mercedes CLA is going through the same problem
any updates on the issue being fixed OP?
x2

i bet this is stopping some people from buying the MKZ, would be good to know that this is no longer something to worry about and it has been fixed.
honestly most of the time its just the plate rattling.

yup, it can be something as simple as a loose license plate screw where just any little movement will have it rattling away.
not neccesarily loose.

plates are thin aluminum.

When you mount the plate on by only two screws on top. the bottom of the plate isn't secured so when you close the hatch/trunk it rattles. ive seen this with alot of cars.

That exactly what I am thinking and if you turn up the bass level for the sound system usually it make the plate rattle too.

The easy to way to know if the problem is a rattling plate or something rattling, is to cut off the bass and is if the rattling stops....you know your problem!
