Lincoln is planning on moving more hybrids for the next model year of the MKZ, doubling the amount of gasoline-electrics being produced from 20 percent to 40 percent of the total vehicle mix.

Raj Nair of Ford’s global product development, confirmed this move to The Detroit News on Wednesday, citing the increased demand of the hybrid luxury sedan. Currently, the MKZ Hybrid costs $35,925, the same as its gas-powered variant, and sales of the gas-electric vehicle have increased during the past few months. This helped to improve Ford’s overall marketshare in hybrid vehicles from 12 percent last year, to 16 percent this year.
