fuel filler door problem

apparently the mkz has a fuel filler door that spontaneously pops open and just won't stay shut. is anyone experiencing this issue?
I really hope it's not widespread and just isolated.

paying close to $50,000 for a luxury sedan, this is the last area I would expect a problem at....

sounds like an issue or defect in the fuel door latch.

sure does, i bet if they swapped the latch with another one, the problem would be clear. if a dealer is nice enough they might do this on the spot for a customer, take the part from a demo in the same color.

Fuel door hinge fix

I recently purchased a used 2011 MKZ (with only 7,500 miles). However after only a few fill ups, the gas door went loose, and the hinge spring did not hold the door closed.
I checked with both a Ford and Lincoln service dept. They could fix it for about $250.00. I checked on YouTube and a guy showed how to remove the fuel door assembly from a 2012 Fusion (same door assembly). The fuel door assembly part is about $66.00 The website is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Qs9k9g0ITQ
Then I found a guy that fixed the fuel door hinge on his F-150 (similar):

I removed the door assembly from my MKZ and was able to repair it by drilling a hole in the hinge pin and adding a self tapping screw and washer. Like the F-150 video showed.

I have the same issue with the filler door. My estimate at the body shop is $90 bucks. Doe that sound about right?
