MKZ ranked 4th on Safest New Cars List

The safety of your vehicle may not be the number one thing you think about when vehicle shopping, but having the peace of mind that your car is one of the safest on the road is a comforting feeling. Owners of the 2014 Lincoln MKZ will be happy to know that it is one of the safest new cars on the road, as AutoGuide has reported.

Taking a look at the crash test ratings for the 2014 Lincoln MKZ Base 4dr All-wheel Drive Sedan, the MKZ gets a 'good' rating in almost every category in the IIHS' crash test format. Everything got a 'good' except four categories. Those categories are "Overall evaluation," "Restraint and dummy kinematics," "Structure and safety cage," and "Structure/safety cage."

The NHTSA gives it five stars overall getting four or five stars in every category except "Side - Barrier, Side Barrier Rating Driver," and "Side - Pole Barrier combined, Side - Pole Barrier combined (FRONT)."

Here is the rest of the vehicles on AutoGuide's list:

10. 2014 Chevrolet malibu
9. 2014 Ford Fusion
8. 2014 Honda Accord
7. 2014 Honda Civic Sedan
6. 2014 Honda Odyssey
5. 2014 Infiniti Q50
4. 2014 Lincoln MKZ
3. 2014 Mazda3
2. 2014 Subaru Legacy
1. 2014 Volvo S60

That is good news for Lincoln. Not surprised to see Volvo at the top of the list though.

Do you guys put a lot of weight on crash test ratings when deciding which car you are going to buy? I see it as more of a threshold. The car has to meet a minimum standard of safety but once that is met, it doesn't really make me more likely to buy a car if it is deemed safer.
