Do people mind the all-touch-no-buttons controls on the MKZ?

I had a chance to sit in an MKZ the other day and one of the coolest features was also one of the features that worried me. The center stack has no buttons, its all touch. While this looks really nice, i am wondering if people find it easy to use while you are driving. Seems like buttons would be easier to fiddle with while driving.

I know that they changed this for the MKC, so there must have been complaints.

we had this discussion and we came to the conclusion that even though it looks great to have no button

its not as convenient as having real buttons.

you're right about having no buttons. I think if they had at least integrate a knob to navigate the screen and to select and deselect things, it would help.

there are times you will want to control things on the screen but at the same time keep your eyes on the road. at least with a knob you can feel what you're doing, on a screen thats impossible.

its cool but the biggest detractor is that you have no haptic or touch feed back. You dont know if you pressed what you pressed when you pressed it...

But the buttons do work well..

I am thinking that there must be an in between for this interface. They should add more texture to the interface without simply turning them all to buttons. I mean Tesla has no buttons basically, so I think that the trend is moving in the direction of touch everything.

Yup, thats my biggest problem with it. It helps to have that feedback, I find myself changing stations and doing other things while driving, keeping my eyes on the road and working the controls, knowing what im doing with the feedback I get.

Plus if that touch screen fails. Nothing works.

Yea, it would be really hard to fix the touch screen if it broke as opposed to fixing a button. I wonder if many people have run into this problem already.

It's rare that screens ever have any issues, it was only the old LCD screen's from the 90's that were a problem since over time they bleed.

These new screens can likely out last the life of the car.
